Thousand Islands Bridge Border Crossing

Thousand Islands Bridge Border Crossing

The Thousand Islands Bridge border crossing links the town of Alexandria Bay to Lansdowne, Ontario via the Thousand Islands Bridge. The “bridge” is actually a series of five bridges that spans the Saint Lawrence River. These bridges connect Ontario and the US to two islands located in the Thousand Islands region – Hill Island (Canada) and Wellesley Island (US).
Travelers crossing the Thousand Islands Bridge are charged a toll that can only be paid in cash or with a Commuter Discount Fare Card (for multiple trips). The current toll rates can be found here.

Weather, Traffic & Road Conditions

The Thousand Islands Bridge is the 4th busiest border crossing in the state of New York. Long lineups are a common occurrence during peak hours as well as during summer months and holidays. A lot of commercial trucks also pass through this bridge which largely contributes to the amount of traffic on the bridge. The bridge also has only two lanes of traffic (one for each direction) which can significantly contribute to the backups at this location.

Travelers can check with New York’s 511 Traveler Information System for updates on roadway conditions and incidents, weather, and travel speed. The information is available via a telephone service (511 or 888-465-1169) as well as through the 511NY app (iTunes, Google Play) and the 511NY website.

Travelers can also check for updates through the Thousand Isle Bridge Twitter account @TIsleBridge. Weather reports for the area are available here.

Ontario’s Traveller Information Services program also provides road conditions reports to the public through its telephone service ( 511 or 1-866-929-4257 for calls outside the province), the Twitter account @511Ontario, and the MTO Ontario 511 website.
